If you’ve noticed that the media notification (the one with play/pause controls) keeps coming back — even after you swipe it away or close the app — you’re not alone. It might seem like something’s wrong, but actually, this is a feature built into Android.

What’s going on?

Starting with Android 11, Google added a feature called media resumption. This means your phone remembers the last media apps you used — like music or podcast players — so you can jump back in quickly.

Even if you’ve closed the app, Android might still show media controls in your notification area. It’s just trying to be helpful, so you don’t have to open the app again when you’re ready to hit play.

Is the app still running?

Nope! Just because the media notification is there doesn’t mean the app is running in the background or using your battery. It’s Android saying, “Hey, you were listening to something earlier — want to pick it back up?”

Think of it like your car stereo showing the last song you played, even after the car’s been turned off.

Can I turn this off?

Yes! If you don’t want this kind of persistent media notification, Android lets you turn it off for all media apps.

Here’s how (on most Android 11+ devices — might vary a bit depending on your phone):

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Sound & vibration

  3. Select Media

  4. Turn off Pin media player

Once that’s off, Android will only show media controls when something is actively playing.

We’ve built our app to follow Android’s recommended behavior so everything works smoothly — but you’re always in control. If this feature isn't for you, feel free to turn it off. And as always, we appreciate your feedback!
